Inclusive, prompt and non-prompt production at midrapidity in pPb collisions at TeV

arXiv:2105.04957 · doi:10.1007/JHEP06(2022)011

Abstract

A measurement of inclusive, prompt, and non-prompt production in pPb collisions at a nucleonnucleon centre-of-mass energy TeV is presented. The inclusive mesons are reconstructed in the dielectron decay channel at midrapidity down to a transverse momentum . The inclusive nuclear modification factor is calculated by comparing the new results in pPb collisions to a recently measured protonproton reference at the same centre-of-mass energy. Non-prompt mesons, which originate from the decay of beauty hadrons, are separated from promptly produced on a statistical basis for larger than 1.0 GeV/. These results are based on the data sample collected by the ALICE detector during the 2016 LHC pPb run, corresponding to an integrated luminosity , which is six times larger than the previous publications. The total uncertainty on the -integrated inclusive and non-prompt cross section are reduced by a factor 1.7 and 2.2, respectively. The measured cross sections and are compared with theoretical models that include various combinations of cold nuclear matter effects. From the non-prompt production cross section, the production cross section at midrapidity, , and the total cross section extrapolated over full phase space, , are derived.
