Global and local spin polarization in heavy ion collisions: a brief overview

Abstract
We give a brief overview about recent developments in theories and experiments on the global and local spin polarization in heavy ion collisions.
elsarticle style, 8 pages, 1 figure. Contribution to the proceedings of Quark Matter 2017 based on the plenary talk. More discussions on the characteristics of theoretical models and their relationships are made. Some references are added, the text is improved and typos are corrected
