Reflective Dialogue or Prompt Refinement? Effects of Tutor Scaffolding on Students' Independent LLM Use for Programming
Jerome Brender, Laila El-Hamamsy, Kim Uittenhove +4
While Large Language Models (LLMs) can provide personalized support in learning, several studies have raised concerns regarding their use in education. Importantly, learning depend…
Estimating Item Difficulty with Large Language Models as Experts
Diana Kolesnikova, Kirill Fedyanin, Abe D. Hofman +2
Accurate estimates of item difficulty are essential for valid assessment and effective adaptive learning. However, for newly created tasks, response data are typically unavailable.…
Recurrent Inference in Text Editing
Ning Shi, Ziheng Zeng, Haotian Zhang +1
In neural text editing, prevalent sequence-to-sequence based approaches directly map the unedited text either to the edited text or the editing operations, in which the performance…
Subsampled online matrix factorization with convergence guarantees
Arthur Mensch, Julien Mairal, Gaël Varoquaux +1
We present a matrix factorization algorithm that scales to input matrices that are large in both dimensions (i.e., that contains morethan 1TB of data). The algorithm streams the ma…
