Brownian Carnot engine
Ignacio A. Martínez, Édgar Roldán, Luis Dinis +3
The Carnot cycle imposes a fundamental upper limit to the efficiency of a macroscopic motor operating between two thermal baths. However, this bound needs to be reinterpreted at mi…
Adiabatic processes realized with a trapped Brownian particle
Ignacio A. Martínez, Édgar Roldán, Luis Dinis +2
We experimentally realize quasistatic adiabatic processes using a single optically-trapped micro- sphere immersed in water whose effective temperature is controlled by an external…
Realization of nonequilibrium thermodynamic processes using external colored noise
Pau Mestres, Ignacio A. Martinez, Antonio Ortiz-Ambriz +2
We investigate the dynamics of single microparticles immersed in water that are driven out of equilibrium in the presence of an additional external colored noise. As a case study,…
Measuring kinetic energy changes in the mesoscale with low acquisition rates
Édgar Roldán, Ignacio A. Martínez, Luis Dinis +1
We describe a new technique to estimate the mean square velocity of a Brownian particle from time series of the position of the particle sampled at frequencies several orders of ma…
