The properties, origin and evolution of stellar clusters in galaxy simulations and observations
C. L. Dobbs, A. Adamo, C. G. Few +16
We investigate the properties and evolution of star particles in two simulations of isolated spiral galaxies, and two galaxies from cosmological simulations. Unlike previous numeri…
Testing Hydrodynamics Schemes in Galaxy Disc Simulations
C. G. Few, C. Dobbs, A. Pettitt +1
We examine how three fundamentally different numerical hydrodynamics codes follow the evolution of an isothermal galactic disc with an external spiral potential. We compare an adap…
Chemodynamics of a Simulated Disc Galaxy: Initial Mass Functions and SNIa Progenitors
C. G. Few, S. Courty, B. K. Gibson +2
We trace the formation and advection of several elements within a cosmological adaptive mesh refinement simulation of an L* galaxy. We use nine realisations of the same initial con…
Metallicity Gradients in Disks: Do Galaxies Form Inside-Out?
K. Pilkington, C. G. Few, B. K. Gibson +13
We examine radial and vertical metallicity gradients using a suite of disk galaxy simulations, supplemented with two classic chemical evolution approaches. We determine the rate of…
