Constraining the quasar population with the broad-line width distribution
S. Fine, S. M. Croom, P. F. Hopkins +12
We measure the width of the MgII line in quasar spectra from the SDSS, 2QZ and 2SLAQ surveys and, by invoking an unnormalised virial mass estimator, relate the scatte…
Where Are All The Fallback Disks? Constraints on Propeller Systems
K. Y. Eksi, L. Hernquist, R. Narayan
Fallback disks are expected to form around new-born neutron stars following a supernova explosion. In almost all cases, the disk will pass through a propeller stage. If the neutron…
NGC 4261 and NGC 4697: rejuvenated elliptical galaxies
A. Zezas, L. Hernquist, G. Fabbiano +1
Chandra images present evidence for a non-uniform spatial distribution of discrete X-ray sources in the elliptical galaxy NGC 4261. This non-uniform distribution is inconsistent wi…
Changes in the X-ray Emission from the Magnetar Candidate 1E 2259+586 during its 2002 Outburst
P. M. Woods, V. M. Kaspi, C. Thompson +6
(abridged) An outburst of more than 80 individual bursts, similar to those seen from Soft Gamma Repeaters (SGRs), was detected from the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar (AXP) 1E 2259+586 in…
