The MEarth-North and MEarth-South transit surveys: searching for habitable super-Earth exoplanets around nearby M-dwarfs
Jonathan M. Irwin, Zachory K. Berta-Thompson, David Charbonneau +4
Detection and characterization of potentially habitable Earth-size extrasolar planets is one of the major goals of contemporary astronomy. By applying the transit method to very lo…
The Flat Transmission Spectrum of the Super-Earth GJ1214b from Wide Field Camera 3 on the Hubble Space Telescope
Zachory K. Berta, David Charbonneau, Jean-Michel Désert +7
Capitalizing on the observational advantage offered by its tiny M dwarf host, we present HST/WFC3 grism measurements of the transmission spectrum of the super-Earth exoplanet GJ121…
Discovery and Atmospheric Characterization of Giant Planet Kepler-12b: An Inflated Radius Outlier
Jonathan J. Fortney, Brice-Olivier Demory, Jean-Michel Desert +34
We report the discovery of planet Kepler-12b (KOI-20), which at 1.695\pm0.030 RJ is among the handful of planets with super-inflated radii above 1.65 RJ. Orbiting its slightly evol…
Using Star Spots to Measure the Spin-orbit Alignment of Transiting Planets
Philip A. Nutzman, Daniel C. Fabrycky, Jonathan J. Fortney
Spectroscopic follow-up of dozens of transiting planets has revealed the degree of alignment between the equators of stars and the orbits of the planets they host. Here we determin…
Observational evidence for a metal rich atmosphere on the super-Earth GJ1214b
Jean-Michel Désert, Jacob Bean, Eliza Miller-Ricci Kempton +6
We report observations of two consecutive transits of the warm super-Earth exoplanet GJ1214b at 3.6 and 4.5 microns with the Infrared Array Camera instrument on-board the Spitzer S…
The Transit Light Curve Project. XIII. Sixteen Transits of the Super-Earth GJ 1214b
Joshua A. Carter, Joshua N. Winn, Matthew J. Holman +4
We present optical photometry of 16 transits of the super-Earth GJ 1214b, allowing us to refine the system parameters and search for additional planets via transit timing. Starspot…
