Crack-front model for adhesion of soft elastic spheres with chemical heterogeneity
Antoine Sanner, Lars Pastewka
Adhesion hysteresis can be caused by elastic instabilities that are triggered by surface roughness or chemical heterogeneity. However, the role of these instabilities in adhesion h…
Hard-material Adhesion: Which Scales of Roughness Matter?
Luke A. Thimons, Abhijeet Gujrati, Antoine Sanner +2
Surface topography strongly modifies adhesion of hard-material contacts, yet roughness of real surfaces typically exists over many length scales. This investigation aims to determi…
Scale-dependent roughness parameters for topography analysis
Antoine Sanner, Wolfram G. Nöhring, Luke A. Thimons +2
The failure of roughness parameters to predict surface properties stems from their inherent scale-dependence; in other words, the measured value depends on the way it was measured.…
Comprehensive topography characterization of polycrystalline diamond coatings
Abhijeet Gujrati, Antoine Sanner, Subarna R. Khanal +4
The surface topography of diamond coatings strongly affects surface properties such as adhesion, friction, wear, and biocompatibility. However, the understanding of multi-scale top…
