Gunwale bobbing
GP Benham, O Devauchelle, SW Morris +1
It has been shown experimentally that small droplets, bouncing on a vibrated liquid bath, can "walk" across the surface due to their interaction with their own wave-field. Gunwale…
Hysteretic wave drag in shallow water
GP Benham, R Bendimerad, M Benzaquen +1
During motion from deep to shallow water, multiple equilibria may emerge, each with identical drag - a phenomenon that can be explained by a localised amplification of the wave dra…
Brachistochrone on a Velodrome
GP Benham, C Cohen, E Brunet +1
The Brachistochrone problem, which describes the curve that carries a particle under gravity in a vertical plane from one height to another in the shortest time, is one of the most…
Wave drag on asymmetric bodies
GP Benham, JP Boucher, R Labbe +2
An asymmetric body with a sharp leading edge and a rounded trailing edge produces a smaller wave disturbance moving forwards than backwards, and this is reflected in the wave drag…
The effect of inner swirl on confined co-axial flow
GP Benham, IJ Hewitt, CP Please +1
We study the problem of mixing between core and annular flow in a pipe, examining the effect of a swirling core flow. Such flows are important across a range of applications, inclu…
