Stellar Velocity Profiles and Line-Strengths out to Four Effective Radii in the Early-Type Galaxy NGC 3379
A. Weijmans, M. Cappellari, P. T. de Zeeuw +6
We describe a new technique to measure stellar kinematics and line-strengths at large radii in nearby galaxies. Using the integral-field spectrograph SAURON as a 'photon-collector'…
The Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX): Description and Early Pilot Survey Results
G. J. Hill, K. Gebhardt, E. Komatsu +11
The Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX) will outfit the 10 m HET with a new wide field and an array of 150 integral-field spectrographs to survey a 420 sq. deg.…
MAMBO Mapping of Spitzer c2d Small Clouds and Cores
Jens Kauffmann, Frank Bertoldi, Tyler L. Bourke +2
AIMS: To study the structure of nearby (< 500 pc) dense starless and star-forming cores with the particular goal to identify and understand evolutionary trends in core properties,…
Bars in Local Galaxies: Evidence for a higher Optical Bar Fraction in Disk-Dominated Galaxies
Fabio D. Barazza, Shardha Jogee, Irina Marinova
We present a study of large-scale bars in the local Universe, based on a large sample of ~3692 galaxies, with -18.5 <= M_g < -22.0 mag and redshift 0.01 <= z < 0.03, drawn from the…
