LIGOs Quantum Response to Squeezed States
L. McCuller, S. E. Dwyer, A. C. Green +194
Gravitational Wave interferometers achieve their profound sensitivity by combining a Michelson interferometer with optical cavities, suspended masses, and now, squeezed quantum sta…
Point absorbers in Advanced LIGO
Aidan F. Brooks, Gabriele Vajente, Hiro Yamamoto +198
Small, highly absorbing points are randomly present on the surfaces of the main interferometer optics in Advanced LIGO. The resulting nano-meter scale thermo-elastic deformations a…
Improving the Robustness of the Advanced LIGO Detectors to Earthquakes
Eyal Schwartz, A Pele, J Warner +196
Teleseismic, or distant, earthquakes regularly disrupt the operation of ground--based gravitational wave detectors such as Advanced LIGO. Here, we present \emph{EQ mode}, a new glo…
First Demonstration of Electrostatic Damping of Parametric Instability at Advanced LIGO
Carl Blair, Slawek Gras, Richard Abbott +16
Interferometric gravitational wave detectors operate with high optical power in their arms in order to achieve high shot-noise limited strain sensitivity. A significant limitation…
