Lectures on D-branes

Abstract

This is an introduction to the physics of D-branes. Topics covered include Polchinski's original calculation, a critical assessment of some duality checks, D-brane scattering, and effective worldvolume actions.

Latex file, 61 pages, 8 figures. Based on lectures given in 1997 at the Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge, the Trieste Spring School on String Theory, and at the 31rst International Symposium Ahrenshoop in Buckow. Some extra comments and added references. Final version to appear in proceedings
