Could very low-metallicity stars with rotation-dominated orbits have been shepherded by the bar?
Zhen Yuan, Chengdong Li, Nicolas F. Martin +11
The most metal-poor stars (e.g. [Fe/H] ) are the ancient fossils from the early assembly epoch of our Galaxy, very likely before the formation of the thick disc. Recent s…
Exploring the impact of a rapidly decelerating bar on transforming bulge orbits into disc-like orbits
Chengdong Li, Zhen Yuan, Giacomo Monari +7
The most metal-poor tail of the Milky Way ([Fe/H] 2.5) contains a population of stars with very prograde planar orbits, which is puzzling in both their origin and evoluti…
Impact of the Galactic bar on tidal streams within the Galactic disc: The case of the tidal stream of the Hyades
Guillaume F. Thomas, Benoit Famaey, Giacomo Monari +5
Tidal streams of disrupted clusters are routinely detected in the halo of the Milky Way. It was recently shown that tidal streams of open clusters can now also be detected within t…
A 3D view of dwarf galaxies with Gaia and VLT/FLAMES I. The Sculptor dwarf spheroidal
Eline Tolstoy, Ása Skúladóttir, Giuseppina Battaglia +12
We present a new homogeneous survey of VLT/FLAMES LR8 line-of-sight radial velocities (vlos) for 1604 resolved red giant branch stars in the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy. In ad…
