Surface magnetism of rapidly rotating red giants: single versus close binary stars
Charlotte Gehan, Patrick Gaulme, Jie Yu
According to dynamo theory, stars with convective envelopes efficiently generate surface magnetic fields, which manifest as magnetic activity in the form of starspots, faculae, fla…
KIC 7955301: a hierarchical triple system with eclipse timing variations and an oscillating red giant
P. Gaulme, T. Borkovits, T. Appourchaux +13
KIC 7955301 is a hierarchical triple system with eclipse timing and depth variations discovered by the Kepler mission. It is composed of a non-eclipsing primary star at the bottom…
Spinning up the Surface: Evidence for Planetary Engulfment or Unexpected Angular Momentum Transport?
Jamie Tayar, Facundo D. Moyano, Melinda Soares-Furtado +15
In this paper, we report the potential detection of a nonmonotonic radial rotation profile in a low-mass lower-luminosity giant star. For most low- and intermediate-mass stars, the…
Asteroseismology of evolved stars to constrain the internal transport of angular momentum. V. Efficiency of the transport on the red giant branch and in the red clump
F. D. Moyano, P. Eggenberger, G. Meynet +4
Thanks to asteroseismology, constraints on the core rotation rate are available for hundreds of low- and intermediate-mass stars in evolved phases. Current physical processes teste…
