Heating a Distant Galaxy Cluster by Giant X-ray Cavities and Large-Scale Shock Fronts
B. R. McNamara, P. E. J. Nulsen, M. W. Wise +4
We report the discovery of a pair of giant cavities, each nearly 200 kpc in diameter, embedded in the gaseous halo of the redshift z=0.216 galaxy cluster MS0735.6+7421. The cavitie…
The Complex Cooling Core of Abell 2029: Radio and X-ray Interactions
Tracy E. Clarke, Elizabeth L. Blanton, Craig L. Sarazin
We present an analysis of Chandra observations of the central regions of the cooling flow cluster Abell 2029. We find a number of X-ray filaments in the central 40 kpc, some of whi…
A Chandra X-ray Observation of Abell 1991: The Late Stages of Infall?
Mangala Sharma, B. R. McNamara, P. E. J. Nulsen +6
We present results from a 38 ks Chandra X-ray observation of the z=0.059 galaxy cluster A1991. The cluster has a bright X-ray core and a central temperature gradient that declines…
The Interaction of Radio Sources and X-ray-Emitting Gas in Cooling Flows
Elizabeth L. Blanton
Recent observations of the interactions between radio sources and the X-ray-emitting gas in cooling flows in the cores of clusters of galaxies are reviewed. The radio sources infla…
