A chronicle of galaxy mass assembly in the EAGLE simulation
Yan Qu, John C. Helly, Richard G. Bower +8
We analyse the mass assembly of central galaxies in the EAGLE hydrodynamical simulations. We build merger trees to connect galaxies to their progenitors at different redshifts and…
The dark nemesis of galaxy formation: why hot haloes trigger black hole growth and bring star formation to an end
Richard Bower, Joop Schaye, Carlos S. Frenk +4
Galaxies fall into two clearly distinct types: `blue-sequence' galaxies that are rapidly forming young stars, and `red-sequence' galaxies in which star formation has almost complet…
Supermassive black holes in the EAGLE Universe. Revealing the observables of their growth
Yetli Rosas-Guevara, Richard G. Bower, Joop Schaye +5
We investigate the evolution of supermassive black holes in the `Evolution and Assembly of GaLaxies and their Environments' (EAGLE) cosmological hydrodynamic simulations. The large…
Music from the heavens - Gravitational waves from supermassive black hole mergers in the EAGLE simulations
Jaime Salcido, Richard G. Bower, Tom Theuns +5
We estimate the expected event rate of gravitational wave signals from mergers of supermassive black holes that could be resolved by a space-based interferometer, such as the Evolv…
