The dual dust chemistry - binarity connection
Orsola De Marco, A. F. Jones, M. J. Barlow +1
Accumulating evidence points to a binary nature for the Wolf-Rayet ([WC]) central stars, a group that constitutes about 15% of all central stars of planetary nebula. From ISO obser…
A deep survey of heavy element lines in planetary nebulae - I. Observations and forbidden-line densities, temperatures and abundances
Y. G. Tsamis, M. J. Barlow, X. -W. Liu +2
We present spectrophotometry of 12 Galactic and 3 Magellanic Cloud planetary nebulae (PNe). Nine of the Galactic PNe were observed by scanning the slit across the PN. We use the fl…
A Concept for an STJ-based Spectrograph
Mark Cropper, M. Barlow, M. A. C. Perryman +8
We describe a multi-order spectrograph concept suitable for 8m-class telescopes, using the intrinsic spectral resolution of Superconducting Tunneling Junction detectors to sort the…
Physical conditions in the planetary nebula Abell 30
R. Wesson, X-W. Liu, M. J. Barlow
We have analysed optical spectra of two of the hydrogen-deficient knots (J1 & J3) in the born-again planetary nebula Abell 30, together with UV spectra of knots J3 & J4. We determi…
