Evidence for gas accretion in galactic disks
Thijs van der Hulst, Renzo Sancisi
Studies of the HI in galaxies have clearly shown that subtle details of the HI distribution and kinematics often harbour key information for understanding the structure and evoluti…
The visible matter - dark matter coupling
Renzo Sancisi
In the inner parts of spiral galaxies, of high or low surface brightness, there is a close correlation between rotation curve shape and light distribution. For any feature in the l…
The mass distribution in early type disk galaxies
E. Noordermeer, J. M. van der Hulst, R. Sancisi +2
We are studying the mass distribution in a sample of 50 early type spiral galaxies, with morphological type betweens S0 and Sab and absolute magnitudes M_B between -18 and -22; the…
Holes and high velocity HI in NGC 6946
Rense Boomsma, Tom Oosterloo, Thijs van der Hulst +2
We are studying the properties of the holes and the high velocity gas in NGC 6946. Here we present some puzzling results.
High Velocity Gas in the Halos of Spiral Galaxies
Filippo Fraternali, Tom Oosterloo, Rense Boomsma +2
Recent, high sensitivity, HI observations of nearby spiral galaxies show that their thin `cold' disks are surrounded by thick layers (halos) of neutral gas with anomalous kinematic…
