The X-Shaped Milky Way Bulge in OGLE-III Photometry and in N-Body Models
David M. Nataf, Andrzej Udalski, Jan Skowron +11
We model the split red clump of the Galactic bulge in OGLE-III photometry, and compare the results to predictions from two N-body models. Our analysis yields precise maps of the br…
Dissecting galactic bulges in space and time I: the importance of early formation scenarios vs. secular evolution
M. K. Seidel, R. Cacho, T. Ruiz-Lara +7
The details of bulge formation via collapse, mergers, secular processes or their interplay remain unresolved. To start answering this question and quantify the importance of distin…
Why the Milky Way's bulge is not only a bar formed from a cold thin disk
P. Di Matteo, A. Gomez, M. Haywood +6
By analyzing a N-body simulation of a bulge formed simply via a bar instability mechanism operating on a kinematically cold stellar disk, and by comparing the results of this analy…
NGC 6522: A typical globular cluster in the Galactic bulge without signatures of rapidly rotating Population III stars
Melissa Ness, Martin Asplund, Andrew R. Casey
We present an abundance analysis of eight potential member stars of the old Galactic bulge globular cluster NGC6522. The same stars have previously been studied by Chiappini et al.…
