Ultraviolet Halos Around Spiral Galaxies. I. Morphology
Edmund Hodges-Kluck, Julian Cafmeyer, Joel Bregman
We examine ultraviolet halos around a sample of highly inclined galaxies within 25 Mpc to measure their morphology and luminosity. Despite contamination from galactic light scatter…
The role of galactic cold gas in low-level supermassive black hole activity
Erik D. Alfvin, Brendan P. Miller, Martha P. Haynes +5
The nature of the relationship between low-level supermassive black hole (SMBH) activity and galactic cold gas, if any, is currently unclear. Here, we test whether central black ho…
The Rotation of the Hot Gas Around the Milky Way
Edmund J. Hodges-Kluck, Matthew J. Miller, Joel N. Bregman
The hot gaseous halos of galaxies likely contain a large amount of mass and are an integral part of galaxy formation and evolution. The Milky Way has a 2e6 K halo that is detected…
The Milky Way's Hot Gas Kinematics: Signatures in Current and Future OVII Absorption Line Observations
Matthew J. Miller, Edmund J. Hodges-Kluck, Joel N. Bregman
Detections of 0 oxygen absorption and emission lines indicate the Milky Way hosts a hot ( K), low-density plasma extending 50 kpc into the Mily Way'…
