Joerg M. Colberg, Frazer Pearce, Caroline Foster +16
Despite a history that dates back at least a quarter of a century studies of voids in the large--scale structure of the Universe are bedevilled by a major problem: there exist a la…
Observations of the Naked-Eye GRB 080319B: Implications of Nature's Brightest Explosion
J. S. Bloom, D. A. Perley, W. Li +18
The first gamma-ray burst (GRB) confirmed to be bright enough to be seen with the naked eye, GRB 080319B at redshift z = 0.937, allowed for exquisite follow-up observations across…
Monte Carlo Simulations of Star Clusters - IV. Calibration of the Monte Carlo Code and Comparison with Observations for the Open Cluster M67
Mirek Giersz, Douglas C. Heggie, Jarrod R. Hurley
We outline the steps needed in order to incorporate the evolution of single and binary stars into a particular Monte Carlo code for the dynamical evolution of a star cluster. We ca…
The early-type galaxies NGC 1407 and NGC 1400 - I: spatially resolved radial kinematics and surface photometry
Max Spolaor, Duncan A. Forbes, George K. T. Hau +2
This is the first paper of a series focused on investigating the star formation and evolutionary history of the two early-type galaxies NGC 1407 and NGC 1400. They are the two brig…
