Scaling laws for direct laser acceleration in a radiation-reaction dominated regime
M. Jirka, M. Vranic, T. Grismayer +1
We study electron acceleration within a sub-critical plasma channel irradiated by an ultra-intense laser pulse ( or ). In this regime, radiation…
Interaction between electrostatic collisionless shocks generates strong magnetic fields
E. Boella, K. Schoeffler, N. Shukla +3
The head-on collision between electrostatic shocks is studied via multi-dimensional Particle-In-Cell simulations. It is found that the shock velocities drop significantly and a str…
Collimated protons accelerated from an overdense gas jet irradiated by a 1 micron wavelength high-intensity short-pulse laser
S. N. Chen, M. Vranic, T. Gangolf +13
We have investigated proton acceleration in the forward direction from a near-critical density hydrogen gas jet target irradiated by a high intensity (10^18 W/cm^2), short-pulse (5…
Laser absorption via QED cascades in counter propagating laser pulses
Thomas Grismayer, Marija Vranic, Joana L. Martins +2
A model for laser light absorption in electron-positron plasmas self-consistently created via QED cascades is described. The laser energy is mainly absorbed due to hard photon emis…
