Structure of Si(114) determined by global optimization methods
F. C. Chuang, C. V. Ciobanu, C. Predescu +2
In this article we report the results of global structural optimization of the Si(114) surface, which is a stable high-index orientation of silicon. We use two independent procedur…
First-principles calculations of step formation energies and step interactions on TiN(001)
C. V. Ciobanu, D. T. Tambe, V. B. Shenoy
We study the formation energies and repulsive interactions of monatomic steps on the TiN(001) surface, using density functional total-energy calculations. The calculated formation…
Finding the reconstructions of semiconductor surfaces via a genetic algorithm
F. C. Chuang, C. V. Ciobanu, V. B. Shenoy +2
In this article we show that the reconstructions of semiconductor surfaces can be determined using a genetic procedure. Coupled with highly optimized interatomic potentials, the pr…
Reconstruction of silicon surfaces: a stochastic optimization problem
Cristian V. Ciobanu, Cristian Predescu
Over the last two decades, scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) has become one of the most important ways to investigate the structure of crystal surfaces. STM has helped achieve r…
