Fiber-optical analogue of the event horizon: Appendices
Thomas G. Philbin, Chris Kuklewicz, Scott Robertson +3
We explain the theory behind our fiber-optical analogue of the event horizon and present the experiment in detail.
Fiber-optical analogue of the event horizon
Thomas G. Philbin, Chris Kuklewicz, Scott Robertson +3
The physics at the event horizon resembles the behavior of waves in moving media. Horizons are formed where the local speed of the medium exceeds the wave velocity. We use ultrasho…
Observation of negative-frequency waves in a water tank: A classical analogue to the Hawking effect?
Germain Rousseaux, Christian Mathis, Philippe Maissa +2
The conversion of positive-frequency waves into negative-frequency waves at the event horizon is the mechanism at the heart of the Hawking radiation of black holes. In black-hole a…
A Novel Design of Dielectric Perfect Invisibility Devices
T. Ochiai, U. Leonhardt, J. C. Nacher
The aim of an invisibility device is to guide light around any object put inside, being able to hide objects from sight. In this work, we propose a novel design of dielectric invis…
Quantum optics of spatial transformation media
Ulf Leonhardt, Thomas G. Philbin
Transformation media are at the heart of invisibility devices, perfect lenses and artificial black holes. In this paper, we consider their quantum theory. We show how transformatio…
