A fundamental limit to the efficiency of spin-exchange optical pumping of 3He nuclei
T. V. Tscherbul, P. Zhang, H. R. Sadeghpour +1
We establish the existence of a fundamental limit to the efficiency of spin-exchange optical pumping of 3He nuclei by collisions with spin-polarized alkali-metal atoms. Using accur…
Sympathetic cooling of polyatomic molecules with S-state atoms in a magnetic trap
T. V. Tscherbul, H-G. Yu, A. Dalgarno
We present a rigorous theoretical study of low-temperature collisions of polyatomic molecular radicals with ^1S_0 atoms in the presence of an external magnetic field. Accurate quan…
Collisional properties of cold spin-polarized nitrogen gas: theory, experiment, and prospects as a sympathetic coolant for trapped atoms and molecules
T. V. Tscherbul, J. Klos, A. Dalgarno +6
We report a combined experimental and theoretical study of collision-induced dipolar relaxation in a cold spin-polarized gas of atomic nitrogen (N). We use buffer gas cooling to cr…
RF-field-induced Feshbach resonances
T. V. Tscherbul, T. Calarco, I. Lesanovsky +3
A rigorous quantum theory of atomic collisions in the presence of radio frequency (rf) magnetic fields is developed and applied to elucidate the effects of combined dc and rf magne…
