What it takes to shun equilibration
R. Gallego, H. Wilming, J. Eisert +1
Numerous works have shown that under mild assumptions unitary dynamics inevitably leads to equilibration of physical expectation values if many energy eigenstates contribute to the…
Statistical ensembles without typicality
Paul Boes, Henrik Wilming, Jens Eisert +1
Maximum-entropy ensembles are key primitives in statistical mechanics from which thermodynamic properties can be derived. Over the decades, several approaches have been put forward…
Strong coupling corrections in quantum thermodynamics
M. Perarnau-Llobet, H. Wilming, A. Riera +2
Quantum systems strongly coupled to many-body systems equilibrate to the reduced state of a global thermal state, deviating from the local thermal state of the system as it occurs…
Axiomatic characterization of the quantum relative entropy and free energy
Henrik Wilming, Rodrigo Gallego, Jens Eisert
Building upon work by Matsumoto, we show that the quantum relative entropy with full-rank second argument is determined by four simple axioms: i) Continuity in the first argument,…
Third Law of Thermodynamics as a Single Inequality
Henrik Wilming, Rodrigo Gallego
The third law of thermodynamics in the form of the unattainability principle states that exact ground-state cooling requires infinite resources. Here we investigate the amount of n…
