Modeling the Ages and Metallicities of Early-Type Galaxies in Fundamental Plane Space
L. A. Porter, R. S. Somerville, J. R. Primack +4
Recent observations have probed the formation histories of nearby elliptical galaxies by tracking correlations between the stellar population parameters, age and metallicity, and t…
The Effect of Major Mergers on Age and Metallicity Across the Fundamental Plane
L. A. Porter, R. S. Somerville, D. J. Croton +4
Recent low-redshift observations have attempted to determine the star formation histories of elliptical galaxies by tracking correlations between the stellar population parameters…
The Role of Dissipation in the Scaling Relations of Cosmological Merger Remnants
M. D. Covington, J. R. Primack, L. A. Porter +3
There are strong correlations between the three structural properties of elliptical galaxies -- stellar mass, velocity dispersion and size -- in the form of a tight "fundamental pl…
Evolution of the Stellar Mass Tully-Fisher Relation in Disk Galaxy Merger Simulations
M. D. Covington, S. A. Kassin, A. A. Dutton +6
There is a large observational scatter toward low velocities in the stellar mass Tully-Fisher relation if disturbed and compact objects are included. However, this scatter can be e…
