Anisotropy ansatz for the Jeans equations: oblate galaxies
Leonardo De Deo, Luca Ciotti, Silvia Pellegrini
In the solution of the Jeans equations for axisymmetric galaxy models the ``-ansatz" is often adopted to prescribe the relation between the vertical and radial components of the…
A (very) simple proof of the gravitational energy formula of polytropic spheres
Luca Ciotti
It is shown how the well-known formula for the gravitational energy of self-gravitating regular polytropes of finite mass can be obtained in an elementary way by using Gauss's dive…
X-ray Halos of Early-Type Galaxies with AGN Feedback and Accretion from a Circumgalactic Medium: models and observations
Silvia Pellegrini, Luca Ciotti, Zhaoming Gan +2
The knowledge of the X-ray properties of the hot gas halos of early-type galaxies has significantly advanced in the past years, for large and homogeneously investigated samples. We…
An accurate and simple, asymptotically matched deprojection of the Sersic law
L. Ciotti, L. De Deo, S. Pellegrini
The Sersic law reproduces very well the surface brightness profile of early-type galaxies, and therefore is routinely used in observational and theoretical works. Unfortunately, it…
