The optical system of the H.E.S.S. imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes, Part II: mirror alignment and point spread function
R. Cornils, S. Gillessen, I. Jung. +16
Mirror facets of the H.E.S.S. imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes are aligned using stars imaged onto the closed lid of the PMT camera, viewed by a CCD camera. The alignment p…
The optical system of the H.E.S.S. imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes, Part I: layout and components of the system
K. Bernloehr, O. Carrol, R. Cornils +18
H.E.S.S. -- the High Energy Stereoscopic System -- is a new system of large imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes, with about 100 m^2 mirror area for each of four telescopes, an…
The Technical Performance of the HEGRA System of Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescopes
G. Puehlhofer, O. Bolz, N. Goetting +1
Between early 1997 and late 2002, the HEGRA collaboration operated a stereoscopic system of 4 (later 5) imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. In this paper we present the calib…
Is the Giant Radio Galaxy M87 a TeV Gamma-Ray Emitter?
HEGRA Collaboration, F. Aharonian, A. Akhperjanian +1
For the first time an excess of photons above an energy threshold of 730 GeV from the giant radio galaxy M87 has been measured at a significance level above 4 sigma. The data have…
