Josephson tunnelling of a phase-imprinted Bose-Einstein condensate in a time-dependent double-well potential
E. Sakellari, N. P. Proukakis, M. Leadbeater +1
This paper discusses the feasibility of experimental control of the flow direction of atomic Bose-Einstein condensates in a double-well potential using phase-imprinting. The flow i…
Analogies between dark solitons in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates and optical systems
N. P. Proukakis, N. G. Parker, D. J. Frantzeskakis +1
Dark solitons have been observed in optical systems (optical fibres, dielectric guides and bulk media), and, more recently, in harmonically confined atomic Bose-Einstein condensate…
Dynamical instability of a dark soliton in a quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate perturbed by an optical lattice
N. G. Parker, N. P. Proukakis, C. F. Barenghi +1
The motion of a dark soliton is investigated in a one-dimensional dilute Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a harmonic trap and an optical lattice. The harmonic trap induces a dy…
Deformation of dark solitons in inhomogeneous Bose-Einstein condensates
N. G. Parker, N. P. Proukakis, M. Leadbeater +1
A dark soliton becomes unstable when it is incident on a background density gradient, and the induced instability results in the emission of sound. Detailed quantitative studies of…
