Gas stripping in galaxy groups - the case of the starburst spiral NGC 2276
Jesper Rasmussen, Trevor J. Ponman, John S. Mulchaey
Ram pressure stripping of galactic gas is generally assumed to be inefficient in galaxy groups due to the relatively low density of the intragroup medium and the small velocity dis…
Probing the wind-wind collision in Gamma Velorum with high-resolution Chandra X-ray spectroscopy: evidence for sudden radiative braking and non-equilibrium ionization
D. B. Henley, I. R. Stevens, J. M. Pittard
We present a new analysis of an archived Chandra HETGS X-ray spectrum of the WR+O colliding wind binary Gamma Velorum. The spectrum is dominated by emission lines from astrophysica…
Theoretical X-ray Line Profiles from Colliding Wind Binaries
D. B. Henley, I. R. Stevens, J. M. Pittard
We present theoretical X-ray line profiles from a range of model colliding wind systems. In particular, we investigate the effects of varying the stellar mass-loss rates, the wind…
First Look XMM-Newton EPIC Observations of the Prototypical Starburst Galaxy M82
Ian R. Stevens, Andrew M. Read, Jimena Bravo-Guerrero
We present initial XMM-Newton EPIC observations of the prototypical starburst galaxy M82. The superwind is seen to extend continuously from the starburst region to the X-ray emissi…
