Molecular Gas in the Halo Fuels the Growth of a Massive Cluster Galaxy at High Redshift
B. H. C. Emonts, M. D. Lehnert, M. Villar-Martin +19
The largest galaxies in the Universe reside in galaxy clusters. Using sensitive observations of carbon-monoxide, we show that the Spiderweb Galaxy -a massive galaxy in a distant pr…
The puzzling case of the radio-loud QSO 3C 186: a gravitational wave recoiling black hole in a young radio source?
M. Chiaberge, J. C. Ely, E. T. Meyer +14
Context. Radio-loud AGNs with powerful relativistic jets are thought to be associated with rapidly spinning black holes (BHs). BH spin-up may result from a number of processes, inc…
Powerful Activity in the Bright Ages. I. A Visible/IR Survey of High Redshift 3C Radio Galaxies and Quasars
Bryan Hilbert, Marco Chiaberge, JohnPaul Kotyla +10
We present new rest frame UV and visible observations of 22 high-redshift (1 < z < 2.5) 3C radio galaxies and QSOs obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope's (HST) Wide Field Camer…
The Environment of z >1 3CR Radio Galaxies and QSOs: From Proto-Clusters to Clusters of Galaxies?
John Paul Kotyla, Marco Chiaberge, Stefi A. Baum +8
We study the cluster environment for a sample of 21 radio loud AGN from the 3CR catalog at z>1, 12 radio galaxies and 9 quasars with HST images in the optical and IR. We use two di…
