Validating gravitational-wave detections: The Advanced LIGO hardware injection system
C. Biwer, D. Barker, J. C. Batch +44
Hardware injections are simulated gravitational-wave signals added to the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO). The detectors' test masses are physically disp…
First Demonstration of Electrostatic Damping of Parametric Instability at Advanced LIGO
Carl Blair, Slawek Gras, Richard Abbott +16
Interferometric gravitational wave detectors operate with high optical power in their arms in order to achieve high shot-noise limited strain sensitivity. A significant limitation…
The Advanced LIGO Photon Calibrators
S. Karki, D. Tuyenbayev, S. Kandhasamy +24
The two interferometers of the Laser Interferometry Gravitaional-wave Observatory (LIGO) recently detected gravitational waves from the mergers of binary black hole systems. Accura…
Improving LIGO calibration accuracy by tracking and compensating for slow temporal variations
D. Tuyenbayev, S. Karki, J. Betzwieser +9
Calibration of the second-generation LIGO interferometric gravitational-wave detectors employs a method that uses injected periodic modulations to track and compensate for slow tem…
