Delving Into X-ray Obscuration of Type 2 AGN, Near and Far
Stephanie M. LaMassa, Tahir Yaqoob, Andrew F. Ptak +4
Using self-consistent, physically motivated models, we investigate the X-ray obscuration in 19 Type 2 [OIII] 5007 Å selected AGN, 9 of which are local Seyfert 2 galaxies and 10 of…
An Archival Chandra and XMM-Newton Survey of Type 2 Quasars
Jianjun Jia, Andrew Ptak, Timothy Heckman +1
(Abridged) We analyzed the {\it Chandra} and {\it XMM-Newton} archival observations for 72 type 2 quasars at . These objects were was selected based on the [O III]5007 opti…
A Chandra observation of the ultraluminous infrared galaxy IRAS 19254--7245 (the Superantennae): X-ray emission from the Compton-thick AGN and the diffuse starburst
Jianjun Jia, Andrew Ptak, Timothy Heckman +2
We present a {\it Chandra} observation of IRAS 19254--7245, a nearby ULIRG also known as {\it the Superantennae}. The high spatial resolution of {\it Chandra} allows us to disentan…
Evidence for Black Hole Growth in Local Analogs to Lyman Break Galaxies
Jianjun Jia, Andrew Ptak, Timothy M. Heckman +3
We have used XMM-Newton to observe six Lyman Break Analogs (LBAs): members of the rare population of local galaxies that have properties that are very similar to distant Lyman Brea…
