A kilonova as the electromagnetic counterpart to a gravitational-wave source
S. J. Smartt, T. -W. Chen, A. Jerkstrand +118
Gravitational waves were discovered with the detection of binary black hole mergers and they should also be detectable from lower mass neutron star mergers. These are predicted to…
SCALA: In-situ calibration for Integral Field Spectrographs
S. Lombardo, D. Küsters, M. Kowalski +39
The scientific yield of current and future optical surveys is increasingly limited by systematic uncertainties in the flux calibration. This is the case for Type Ia supernova (SN I…
The Discovery of a Gravitationally Lensed Supernova Ia at Redshift 2.22
David Rubin, Brian Hayden, Xiaosheng Huang +32
We present the discovery and measurements of a gravitationally lensed supernova (SN) behind the galaxy cluster MOO J1014+0038. Based on multi-band Hubble Space Telescope and Very L…
The Extinction Properties of and Distance to the Highly Reddened Type Ia Supernova SN 2012cu
X. Huang, Z. Raha, G. Aldering +39
Correction of Type Ia Supernova brightnesses for extinction by dust has proven to be a vexing problem. Here we study the dust foreground to the highly reddened SN 2012cu, which is…
