Boosting the performance of Brillouin amplification at sub-quarter-critical densities via reduction of parasitic Raman scattering
R. M. G. M. Trines, E. P. Alves, K. A. Humphrey +6
Raman and Brillouin amplification of laser pulses in plasma have been shown to produce picosecond pulses of petawatt power. In previous studies, filamentation of the probe pulse ha…
Proton acceleration by a relativistic laser frequency-chirp driven plasma snowplow
Aakash A. Sahai, T. C. Katsouleas, R. A. Bingham +4
We analyze the use of a relativistic laser pulse with a controlled frequency chirp incident on a rising plasma density gradient to drive an acceleration structure for proton and li…
Plasma wakefields driven by intense, broadband, incoherent electromagnetic radiation
R. M. G. M. Trines, L. O. Silva, J. T. Mendonça +3
Non-linear wave-driven processes in plasmas are normally described by either a monochromatic pump wave that couples to other monochromatic waves, or as a random phase wave coupling…
Laminar shocks in high power laser plasma interactions
R. A. Cairns, R. Bingham, P. Norreys +1
We propose a theory to describe laminar ion sound structures in a collisionless plasma. Reflection of a small fraction of the upstream ions converts the well known ion acoustic sol…
