The orbital poles of Milky Way satellite galaxies: a rotationally supported disc-of-satellites
Manuel Metz, Pavel Kroupa, Noam I. Libeskind
Available proper motion measurements of Milky Way (MW) satellite galaxies are used to calculate their orbital poles and projected uncertainties. These are compared to a set of rece…
Satellite Systems around Galaxies in Hydrodynamic Simulations
Noam I Libeskind, Shaun Cole, Carlos S Frenk +2
We investigate the properties of satellite galaxies formed in N-body/SPH simulations of galaxy formation in the CDM cosmology. The simulations include the main physical effects…
The Effect of Gravitational Recoil on Black Holes Forming in a Hierarchical Universe
N. I. Libeskind, S. Cole, C. S. Frenk +1
Galactic bulges are known to harbour central black holes whose mass is tightly correlated with the stellar mass and velocity dispersion of the bulge. In a hierarchical universe, me…
The Distribution of Satellite Galaxies: The Great Pancake
Noam I Libeskind, Carlos S Frenk, Shaun Cole +4
The 11 known satellite galaxies within 250 kpc of the Milky Way lie close to a great circle on the sky. We use high resolution N-body simulations of galactic dark matter halos to t…
