The intensity contrast of solar granulation: comparing Hinode SP results with MHD simulations
S. Danilovic, A. Gandorfer, A. Lagg +5
The contrast of granulation is an important quantity characterizing solar surface convection. We compare the intensity contrast at 630 nm, observed using the Spectro-Polarimeter (S…
Strong horizontal photospheric magnetic field in a surface dynamo simulation
M Schuessler, A. Voegler
Observations with the Hinode spectro-polarimeter have revealed strong horizontal internetwork magnetic fields in the quiet solar photosphere. We aim at interpreting the observation…
A solar surface dynamo
A. Voegler, M. Schuessler
Context: Observations indicate that the `quiet' solar photosphere outside active regions contains considerable amounts of magnetic energy and magnetic flux, with mixed polarity on…
Magneto-convection in a sunspot umbra
M. Schuessler, A. Voegler
Results from a realistic simulation of 3D radiative magneto-convection in a strong background magnetic field corresponding to the conditions in sunspot umbrae are shown. The convec…
A necessary extension of the surface flux transport model
I. Baumann, D. Schmitt, M. Schuessler
Customary two-dimensional flux transport models for the evolution of the magnetic field at the solar surface do not account for the radial structure and the volume diffusion of the…
