Modeling the color evolution of luminous red galaxies - improvements with empirical stellar spectra
Claudia Maraston, Gustav Stromback, Daniel Thomas +2
Predicting the colors of Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has been a long-standing problem. The g,r,i colors of LRGs are inconsistent with stella…
Luminosity Function Constraints on the Evolution of Massive Red Galaxies Since z~0.9
Richard J. Cool, Daniel J. Eisenstein, Xiaohui Fan +6
We measure the evolution of the luminous red galaxy (LRG) luminosity function in the redshift range 0.1<z<0.9 using samples of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey as well as…
The 2dF-SDSS LRG and QSO Survey: The Star Formation Histories of Luminous Red Galaxies
Isaac G. Roseboom, Kevin A. Pimbblet, Michael J. Drinkwater +21
We present a detailed investigation into the recent star formation histories of 5,697 Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) based on the Hdelta (4101A) and [OII] (3727A) lines. LRGs are lum…
The 2dF-SDSS LRG and QSO (2SLAQ) Luminous Red Galaxy Survey
R. Cannon, M. Drinkwater, A. Edge +29
We present a spectroscopic survey of almost 15,000 candidate intermediate-redshift Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) brighter than i=19.8, observed with 2dF on the Anglo-Australian Tele…
