The large-scale shock in the cluster of galaxies Hydra A
A. Simionescu, E. Roediger, P. E. J. Nulsen +5
We analyzed a deep XMM-Newton observation of the cluster of galaxies Hydra A, focusing on the large-scale shock discovered as a surface brightness discontinuity in Chandra images.…
Ram pressure stripping in a viscous intracluster medium
E. Roediger, M. Brueggen
In the recent literature there is circumstantial evidence that the viscosity of the intracluster medium may not be too far from the Spitzer value. In this letter, we present two-di…
Ram pressure stripping of disc galaxies orbiting in clusters. I. Mass and radius of the remaining gas disc
E. Roediger, M. Brueggen
We present the first 3D hydrodynamical simulations of ram pressure stripping of a disc galaxy orbiting in a galaxy cluster. Along the orbit, the ram pressure that this galaxy exper…
Ram pressure stripping of disc galaxies: The role of the inclination angle
E. Roediger, M. Brueggen
We present 3D hydrodynamical simulations of ram pressure stripping of massive disc galaxies in clusters. Studies of galaxies that move face-on have predicted that in such a geometr…
