Numerical simulations of the region of possible sprite inception in the mesosphere above winter thunderstorms under wind shear
Carynelisa Haspel, Yoav Yair
Transient luminous events (TLEs) is the collective name given to mesospheric electrical breakdown phenomena occurring in conjunction with strong lightning discharges in tropospheri…
Space-based optical imaging of blue corona discharges on cumulonimbus cloud tops
Yoav Yair, Menahem Korzets, Adam Devir +2
The ILAN-ES (Imaging of Lightning And Nocturnal Emissions from Space) experiment was conducted in April 2022 as part of the Axiom company AX-1 private mission to the International…
Sprite discharges on Venus and Jupiter-like planets: a laboratory investigation
Daria Dubrovin, Sander Nijdam, Eddie van Veldhuizen +3
Large sprite discharges at high atmospheric altitudes have been found to be physically similar to small streamer discharges in air at sea level density. Based on this understanding…
A study of the possibility of sprites in the atmospheres of other planets
Yoav Yair, Yukihiro Takahashi, Roy Yaniv +2
Sprites are a spectacular type of transient luminous events (TLE) which occur above thunderstorms immediately after lightning. They have shapes of giant jellyfish, carrots or colum…
