Three-Layer Magnetoconvection
M. -K. Lin, L. J. Silvers, M. R. E. Proctor
It is believed that some stars have two or more convection zones in close proximity near to the stellar photosphere. These zones are separated by convectively stable regions that a…
Magnetic Fields In Astrophysical Objects
L. J. Silvers
Magnetic fields are known to reside in many astrophysical objects and are now believed to be crucially important for the creation of phenomena on a wide variety of scales. However,…
Long-term Nonlinear Behaviour of the Magnetorotational Instability in a Localised Model of an Accretion Disc
L. J. Silvers
For more than a decade, the so-called shearing box model has been used to study the fundamental local dynamics of accretion discs. This approach has proved to be very useful becaus…
Interacting Convection Zones
L. J. Silvers, M. R. E. Proctor
We present results from simulations to examine how the separation between two convectively unstable layers affect their interaction. We show that two convectively unstable layers r…
The Interaction Of Multiple Convection Zones In A-type Stars
L. J. Silvers, M. R. E. Proctor
A-type stars have a complex internal structure with the possibility of multiple convection zones. If not sufficiently separated, such zones will interact through the convectively s…
