Star formation in the local Universe from the CALIFA sample. II. Activation and quenching mechanisms in bulges, bars, and disks
C. Catalán-Torrecilla, A. Gil de Paz, A. Castillo-Morales +22
We estimate the current extinction-corrected H star formation rate (SFR) of the different morphological components that shape galaxies (bulges, bars, and disks). We use a multi-…
Observational constraints to boxy/peanut bulge formation time
I. Perez, I. Martinez-Valpuesta, T. Ruiz-Lara +10
Boxy/peanut bulges are considered to be part of the same stellar structure as bars and both could be linked through the buckling instability. The Milky Way is our closest example.…
Arm and interarm abundance gradients in CALIFA spiral galaxies
L. Sánchez-Menguiano, S. F. Sánchez, I. Pérez +23
Spiral arms are the most singular features in disc galaxies. These structures can exhibit different patterns, namely grand design and flocculent arms, with easily distinguishable c…
Observational hints for radial migration in disc galaxies from CALIFA
T. Ruiz-Lara, I. Pérez, E. Florido +22
Context: According to numerical simulations, stars are not always kept at their birth galactocentric distances but migrate. The importance of this radial migration in shaping galac…
