Black Hole Fine Structure
Adrian Ka-Wai Chung, Richard Dyer, Tomasz Kinowski +1
In General Relativity, axial and polar black-hole perturbations share identical quasinormal-mode spectra, a property known as isospectrality. New physics can break this degeneracy,…
Modeling Direct Waves in Binary Black Hole Ringdowns
Richard Dyer, Adrian Ka-Wai Chung, Christopher J. Moore
Direct waves, prompt signals propagating from a plunging object to the observer, exist alongside quasinormal modes in binary black hole ringdown. It has been suggested that the pro…
Quasinormal mode content of binary black hole ringdowns
Richard Dyer, Christopher J. Moore
We present a fully Bayesian, data-driven framework for identifying quasinormal modes in high-accuracy Cauchy-Characteristic Evolution (CCE) gravitational waveforms. Applying this t…
Quasinormal modes from numerical relativity with Bayesian inference
Richard Dyer, Christopher J. Moore
Numerical relativity (NR) enables the study of physics in strong and dynamical gravitational fields and provides predictions for the gravitational-wave signals produced by merging…
Black-Hole Cartography
Richard Dyer, Christopher J. Moore
Quasinormal modes (QNMs) are usually characterized by their time dependence; oscillations at specific frequencies predicted by black hole (BH) perturbation theory. QNMs are routine…
