Compression with Actions
Lei Zhao, Yeow-Khiang Chia, Tsachy Weissman
We consider the setting where actions can be used to modify a state sequence before compression. The minimum rate needed to losslessly describe the optimal modified sequence is cha…
Universal Estimation of Directed Information
Jiantao Jiao, Haim H. Permuter, Lei Zhao +2
Four estimators of the directed information rate between a pair of jointly stationary ergodic finite-alphabet processes are proposed, based on universal probability assignments. Th…
Coordination using Implicit Communication
Paul Cuff, Lei Zhao
We explore a basic noise-free signaling scenario where coordination and communication are naturally merged. A random signal X_1,...,X_n is processed to produce a control signal or…
A Random Variable Substitution Lemma With Applications to Multiple Description Coding
Jia Wang, Jun Chen, Lei Zhao +2
We establish a random variable substitution lemma and use it to investigate the role of refinement layer in multiple description coding, which clarifies the relationship among seve…
Zero-error feedback capacity via dynamic programming
Lei Zhao, Haim Permuter
In this paper, we study the zero-error capacity for finite state channels with feedback when channel state information is known to both the transmitter and the receiver. We prove t…
