Control of Magnetic Reconnection in High Energy Density Plasmas
J. L. Latham, B. K. Russell, C. Dong +6
Magnetic reconnection governs the explosive release of magnetic energy in systems from the solar corona to fusion plasmas, yet controlling it in the laboratory has remained out of…
High brightness multi-MeV photon source driven by a petawatt-scale laser wakefield accelerator
E. Gerstmayr, B. Kettle, M. J. V. Streeter +16
We present an experimental demonstration of a bright multi-MeV gamma source driven by a petawatt laser. The source generates on average photons above 1 MeV…
The Influence of Laser Focusing Conditions on the Direct Laser Acceleration of Electrons
H. Tang, K. Tangtartharakul, R. Babjak +12
Direct Laser Acceleration (DLA) of electrons during a high-energy, picosecond laser interaction with an underdense plasma has been demonstrated to be substantially enhanced by cont…
On the energy spectrum evolution of electrons undergoing radiation cooling
S. V. Bulanov, G. M. Grittani, R. Shaisultanov +5
Radiative cooling of electron beams interacting with counter-propagating electromagnetic waves is analyzed, taking into account the quantum modification of the radiation friction f…
