Points as Tori: Fast Pointwise Signed Distance for Point Clouds
Nicole Feng, Ioannis Gkioulekas, Keenan Crane
We describe a method for computing signed distance to point clouds that allows fast pointwise evaluation at arbitrary spatial resolution. As input, our method takes a point cloud w…
Solving partial differential equations in participating media
Bailey Miller, Rohan Sawhney, Keenan Crane +1
We consider the problem of solving partial differential equations (PDEs) in domains with complex microparticle geometry that is impractical, or intractable, to model explicitly. Dr…
3D Reconstruction with Fast Dipole Sums
Hanyu Chen, Bailey Miller, Ioannis Gkioulekas
We introduce a method for high-quality 3D reconstruction from multi-view images. Our method uses a new point-based representation, the regularized dipole sum, which generalizes the…
Differential Walk on Spheres
Bailey Miller, Rohan Sawhney, Keenan Crane +1
We introduce a Monte Carlo method for computing derivatives of the solution to a partial differential equation (PDE) with respect to problem parameters (such as domain geometry or…
Objects as volumes: A stochastic geometry view of opaque solids
Bailey Miller, Hanyu Chen, Alice Lai +1
We develop a theory for the representation of opaque solids as volumes. Starting from a stochastic representation of opaque solids as random indicator functions, we prove the condi…
