Search for Slow Bars in Two Barred Galaxies with Nuclear Structures: NGC 6951 and NGC 7716
Yun Hee Lee, Ho Seong Hwang, Virginia Cuomo +9
We investigate two barred galaxies with nuclear structures, NGC 6951 and NGC 7716, to examine whether they host slow bars. Using Gemini/GMOS long-slit spectroscopy, we calculate th…
A Fast, Second-Order Accurate Poisson Solver in Spherical Polar Coordinates
Jeonghyeon Ahn, Woong-Tae Kim, Yonghwi Kim
We present an efficient and accurate algorithm for solving the Poisson equation in spherical polar coordinates with a logarithmic radial grid and open boundary conditions. The meth…
Vertical Shear Instability in Thermally-Stratified Protoplanetary Disks: II. Hydrodynamic Simulations and Observability
Han-Gyeol Yun, Woong-Tae Kim, Jaehan Bae +1
We conduct three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations to investigate the nonlinear outcomes and observability of vertical shear instability (VSI) in protoplanetary disks. Our model…
Vertical Shear Instability in Thermally-Stratified Protoplanetary Disks: I. A Linear Stability Analysis
Han-Gyeol Yun, Woong-Tae Kim, Jaehan Bae +1
Vertical shear instability (VSI), driven by a vertical gradient of rotational angular velocity, is a promising source of turbulence in protoplanetary disks. We examine the semi-glo…
