Shaping the Milky Way. II. The dark matter halo's response to the LMC's passage in a cosmological context
Elise Darragh-Ford, Nicolas Garavito-Camargo, Arpit Arora +15
The distribution of dark matter in the Milky Way (MW) is expected to exhibit a large-scale dynamical response to the recent infall of the LMC. This event produces a dynamical frict…
Chronology of our Galaxy from Gaia colour-magnitude diagram fitting (ChronoGal): IV. On the inner Milky Way stellar age distribution
Tomás Ruiz-Lara, David Mirabal, Carme Gallart +15
The Milky Way's inner region is dominated by a stellar bar and a boxy-peanut shaped bulge. However, which stellar populations inhabit the inner Galaxy or how star formation proceed…
Quantifying the intrinsic variability due to randomness of the Auriga galaxy formation model
Ruediger Pakmor, Rebekka Bieri, Francesca Fragkoudi +6
Numerical simulations have become an indispensable tool in astrophysics. To interpret their results, it is critical to understand their intrinsic variability, that is, how much the…
Formation and evolution of boxy/peanut bulges in the Auriga cosmological simulations
Paula D. López, Francesca Fragkoudi, Sofía A. Cora +5
Boxy/peanut (b/p) or X-shaped bulges have been extensively explored with theory and numerical simulations of isolated galaxies. However, it is only recently that advances in hydrod…
