The Liquid Buffer: Multi-Year Storage for Defossilization and Energy Security under Climate Uncertainty
Leonard Göke, Jan Wohland, Stefano Moret +1
The climate-driven uncertainty of renewable generation and electricity demand challenges energy security in net-zero energy systems. By introducing a scalable stochastic model that…
Low-regret Strategies for Energy Systems Planning in a Highly Uncertain Future
Gabriel Wiest, Niklas Nolzen, Florian Baader +2
Large uncertainties in the energy transition urge decision-makers to develop low-regret strategies, i.e., strategies that perform well regardless of how the future unfolds. To addr…
Transition pathways to electrified chemical production within sector-coupled national energy systems
Patricia Mayer, Florian Joseph Baader, David Yang Shu +4
The chemical industry's transition to net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is particularly challenging due to the carbon inherently contained in chemical products, eventually re…
Identifying Dealbreakers and Robust Policies for the Energy Transition Amid Unexpected Events
Diederik Coppitters, Gabriel Wiest, Leonard Göke +3
Disruptions in energy imports, backlash in social acceptance, and novel technologies failing to develop are unexpected events that are often overlooked in energy planning, despite…
